The academic program at Sacred Heart School places an emphasis on every aspect of student growth and development, while meeting state requirements. Suitable class sizes and exceptional, qualified teachers allow us to offer a comfortable and inclusive educational environment while ensuring each student receives the individualized attention and support they need.

Academics

Dedicated teachers and high academic expectations are an integral part of SHS. The dedicated teachers are all State Certified and keep up with the continuing education classes. SHS, a Pre-K-8 school, is recognized by the State of Illinois and provides students with a solid education in all of the core curriculum subjects. The results of the educational program are notable. SHS students consistently score high on nationwide achievement tests, and our graduates traditionally are leaders in academics and sports at Pana High School.

Enrollment

Over 130 students are enrolled in Pre-K through 8th Grade Classrooms.

Other Denomination

24% of our students are members of other denominations.

Staff

Sacred Heart School employs 20 staff members in our classrooms and offices.

Tuition Based Education

Sacred Heart School offers a multiple-student discount for our families.

Student-Teacher Ratio

Our student to teacher ratio at Sacred Heart School is 15 students to 1 teacher.

Uniforms/Dress Code

A dress code for Kindergarten-8th Grade students is enforced.

Academic Progress Testing

Beginning in 2020, the academic progress of the students in our school is measured by means of the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test through the NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association). Testing is administered to grades 1st-8th in the Fall, Winter and Spring to better assist our teachers in monitoring and ensuring student progress. This testing process also allows for early intervention techniques proven to aid in student performance.

Religious Instruction

Religious instruction offers opportunities for prayer, reception of sacraments and participation in the Eucharist. Teaching Christian values and respect, then putting them into practice is the goal of the SHS Motto: “We are here to try our best to grow in mind and spirit, through the grace
of God.”

Enrichment Courses

At Sacred Heart School we offer enrichment courses for students including Art, Music and P.E. All students are encouraged to become well-rounded individuals.
